Chapter 9: Trying to Cure Smallpox (Part 1). [10]
Summary
Li Su, a villager, witnessed a scene where monks were giving disaster-relief incense ash water to the villagers, claiming it could ward off the plague. Li Su was skeptical and suspected the monks were deceiving the villagers. A Daoist, who was also present, was angry at the monks, not Li Su, and Li Su later found out that the Daoist was upset because the monks were stealing his business. Li Su met with the Wang brothers, whose younger brother had died from the plague, and claimed that he might have a way to deal with the plague. The Daoist followed Li Su and the Wang brothers, curious about Li Su's claim. Li Su was looking for a cow suffering from smallpox, which he believed could help him cure the plague. They found a cow at the Hu Family's house, but the main gate was closed, and the side gate was locked. Li Su tried to pick the lock but was stopped by the Daoist, who kicked the door open instead.Full content
