Chapter 712: Trapped in Despair. [716]
Summary
A wooden platform appeared overnight on a hill near Liaodong City, allowing the Sui army to monitor Goguryeo movements. Sui sentinels reported that Goguryeo troops were gathering, prompting Sui commander Zhang Xuan to strategize a relaxed siege. He planned to ambush the Goguryeo forces attempting to escape to the new city, which had recently fallen to the Sui. As Goguryeo troops, led by Ning Wu Li, prepared to break out, they were unaware of the new city's capture. Upon reaching the new city, they were met with Sui forces instead of supplies, leading to despair among the soldiers. Ning Wu Li faced blame for their predicament but recognized the need to regroup. A conflict over scarce food resulted in casualties, highlighting the dire situation. Ultimately, Ning Wu Li ordered his remaining troops to cross the Liao Shui River to join forces with Eulji Mun-deok, despite the challenges posed by the river's swift currents and previous losses. The Goguryeo army, reduced to less than four thousand, faced an uncertain future.Full content
