Chapter 69: "Hong Shan's Marriage Alliance: Taibao of the Zhen Clan and Sanmiao Compete". [71]

Summary

The Taibao of the Zhen Clan retreated to the Hong Shan tribe, where they received supplies that boosted troop morale. To deter the Sanmiao and Gonggong armies, he ordered captured military slaves to build fortifications, resulting in three large camps being established. The Taibao reported a devastating naval loss, prompting a strategic withdrawal and reliance on the Hong Shan tribe for support. Xia Qi, distressed by the losses, advised caution against the Sanmiao tribe's influence and emphasized the need for a naval camp's reconstruction. He proposed a marriage alliance between the Zhen clan and the Hong Shan tribe to secure their loyalty. Dongyue was sent to negotiate this alliance, ensuring protection during his visit. Meanwhile, Xia Qi mobilized forces from Jing and Yong states to confront the hostile tribes and ordered the sinking of military slaves to prevent future resistance. Dongyue successfully proposed the marriage alliance, which was welcomed by the Great Lord of Hong Shan, leading to plans for suitable brides. He then returned to inform the Taibao of the successful negotiations and the need for patience as reinforcements arrived.
