Chapter 68: "Thunder on the Water Surface: Gonggong Surrounds the City". [70]
Summary
Taibao Zhen's swift horsemen were intercepted by Gonggong's naval camp, revealing his concern over the blockade of the imperial grain transport route. The Great Lord of Sanmiao decided to lure the imperial navy into a trap, leading to the dispatch of a disguised messenger to request their presence in Sanmiao territory. Misled by the authentic-looking decree, Xia Qi allowed the imperial navy to enter Sanmiao, unaware they were walking into an ambush. The imperial fleet was surrounded and attacked, leading to significant losses as they attempted to escape. Taibao Zhen, furious at the defeat, ordered a retreat, which was further complicated by ambushes from local tribes, resulting in additional casualties. He then commanded the annihilation of the tribes involved in the harassment and the confiscation of their resources to bolster the imperial army.Full content
