As they moved, they encountered a squad from the Guandou tribe, prompting an ambush that annihilated the enemy's light cavalry. Afterward, the Xu Zhou troops made contact with the Qing Zhou stationed troops, who were prepared to welcome them. The Xu Zhou garrison commander ordered his troops to march quickly to meet the Qing Zhou forces, and together they reinforced their defenses against potential attacks from the Guandou tribe. The next day, the town commander of Qing Zhou arrived with reinforcements, leading to a united force of over fifty thousand troops. Meanwhile, the main imperial army from Yanzhou faced hardships but managed to enter Sanmiao territory, forming a triangular support formation. However, they were still at a disadvantage in strength and faced threats to their supply lines. Taibao Zhen organized meetings to strategize but struggled to address the water supply threat from Gonggong. Despite sending multiple reports to urge the imperial navy's swift arrival, there was no response, leaving them anxious and concerned.
