Summary

During the third watch of the night, Liu Shun Chen, the general defending Fan Yang County, was anxious about the city's safety after receiving news of the Ever-Victorious Army's surrender to the Song army. Despite pressure from the Song cavalry led by Xiao Yu Qing to open the city gates, he refused without a personal letter from the great commander. As tensions escalated, Liu received alarming news of an approaching army. Li Yan Qing's forces, bolstered by additional cavalry, prepared to assault the city, recognizing its strategic importance. He sent Zhang Bao to negotiate with Liu, who eventually received the necessary letter and agreed to surrender under the condition that civilians would not be harmed. Li Yan Qing accepted these terms, and the city gates were opened, allowing the Liao soldiers to surrender peacefully. Meanwhile, Tong Guan, upon learning of Guo Yao Shi's surrender to Li Yan Qing, felt regret for missing an opportunity to capture the Liao general himself. He quickly mobilized his forces to take advantage of the weakened Liao defenses. His troops advanced efficiently, with Gao Shi Xuan leading a contingent toward Fan Yang County, only to find it already under Song control. Tensions rose between Gao Shi Xuan and Li Yan Qing, leading to a standoff at the city gates, where Li threatened to defend the city against any attack.
