Chapter 55: "The Four Messengers Silent, Winds and Clouds in the Palace". [57]

Summary

Yi Di learns that three of the four special envoys he sent have been ambushed and killed, with the fate of the envoy to the Ying Clan unknown, leading him to suspect a conspiracy. His isolation grows as officials distance themselves from him, and he feels increasingly helpless as Xia Qi manipulates the court. During a grand court session, Xia Qi accuses the envoy of colluding with rebels, prompting Yi Di to order an interrogation. However, pressured by the court to comply with Yu Di's directive for a joint trial, Yi Di reluctantly agrees, fearing the loss of his authority. He also orders the capture of tribal leaders blamed for the envoy's fate and grants various requests from the officials, but ultimately collapses from the stress after the session.
