Summary

In the inner hall, Liang An Ren learns that merchant Zhang Jiu has brought five hundred treasure boxes of Baoyanzhai rouge, a luxury item in Western Xia. Although it's less than expected, Liang An Ren sees potential for profit. Zhang Jiu reveals he needs thirty thousand jin of beef tallow to fulfill a deal with Li Dong Zhu for more treasure boxes and fragrant soap. Liang An Ren agrees to provide the tallow at market price. However, realizing he has shared sensitive military information, he orders Zhang Jiu under house arrest to prevent any leaks. Zhang Jiu, confined but well-treated, grows anxious about relaying crucial military intelligence to Tong Tai Wei. After days of frustration, he manages to send a message about the absence of troops in Linzhou through a subordinate. Meanwhile, he encounters a maid, and in an attempt to distract her, he flirts with her, dragging her inside to avoid suspicion. The Qiao brothers, successful merchants in Western Xia, are introduced as potential allies for Zhang Jiu’s message.
