Summary

Yin Chuan Cheng, a strategic stronghold at the northeastern exit of Hengshan Grand Canyon, is currently held by the Xi Xia army after changing hands multiple times in battles against the Song dynasty. The Xi Xia have fortified the city in preparation for the Song army's anticipated northern expedition. The Song army has established a large camp at the canyon's entrance and is focused on securing their supply lines, particularly the dam at Hu Xiao Gorge. As the Song army's commander, Zhong Shi Dao, discusses strategies with his generals, Military Advisor Li Yan Qing suggests that an unexpected tactic might be effective against the well-defended city. The generals agree that a strong assault is necessary, and Zhong Shi Dao reveals that they will launch their attack that night. Under the cover of darkness, two thousand Song soldiers deploy incendiary weapons called fire crows, which are launched towards Yin Chuan Cheng to create chaos. The fire crows, designed to ignite upon reaching their target, set numerous fires within the city, causing panic among the Xi Xia soldiers. However, the Xi Xia general, Li Liang Fu, remains composed and orders his troops to prepare their trebuchets to counter the Song army's fiery assault.
