Chapter 1239: Blood Battle at Changwu (Part 2). [1243]
Summary
A military engineer announces the successful installation of five trebuchets on a cliff near Changwu City, which Li Shi Min plans to use against the city. However, Zhou soldiers set fire to the area, causing chaos among the Tang soldiers. In the ensuing panic, Li Xuan Ba, overwhelmed by fear of fire, charges towards the city gate but is ultimately engulfed in flames and dies. The battle intensifies as the Tang soldiers attempt to breach the city walls, facing fierce resistance from the Zhou defenders, led by Sun Ying. Despite their efforts, Sun Ying is killed by an arrow from Li Shi Min. Just as the Tang forces seem poised to overwhelm the defenders, Luo Shi Xin arrives with reinforcements, forcing Li Shi Min to retreat. The battle results in heavy casualties for both sides, with significant losses for the Tang army, including the death of Li Xuan Ba. The outcome of the battle prevents Li Shi Min from entering Guanzhong, leading to political shifts in the Tang dynasty as Li Shentong supports Li Yuanji's ascension to the throne.Full content
