Chapter 1238: Blood Battle at Changwu (Part 3). [1242]
Summary
Sun Ying is surprised by the quick fall of Fulong Pass, and his only hope is the giant wooden formation three miles away. Hundreds of large trees block the official road, and oil-soaked trees are set on fire to prevent the Tang army's charge. Li Xuan Ba and hundreds of Tang cavalry are closely pursuing Zhou soldiers, but they cannot get through the narrow passage due to the flames. The fire spreads and engulfs the official road for a hundred yards, causing Li Shi Min and his troops to be delayed. Chang Sun Shun De and his army are left dumbfounded, and Li Shi Min wonders about the purpose of the actions. General Qin Qiong suggests that the purpose is to delay time. Li Shi Min becomes more puzzled and suspects that the army inside Chang Wu City might not be the Tang army. Meanwhile, General Luo Shi Xin leads a cavalry force of five thousand men towards Chang Wu City, while General Wei Song, the garrison commander of Ding'an County, stands atop the city wall and watches as five thousand Zhou cavalry ride southwest. Wei Song knows that the Zhou cavalry must be heading for the Prince of Qin, and he receives a letter from Luo Shi Xin, asking him to surrender to the Zhou army. Wei Song decides to observe the situation and not act rashly. At Chang Wu City, the siege battle has been raging for nearly two hours. Li Shi Min wants to capture the city to maintain his credibility and dignity. He commands the army to attack once more, and thousands of Tang soldiers surge up like a swarm of ants, hacking with swords, thrusting with spears, and shooting arrows. The rolling logs and stones from the city fall like hail, causing blood and flesh to fly.Full content
