Chapter 11: The Unwelcome Guest [10]

Summary

Shen Jiao finds a dagger on the ground and decides to keep it for self-defense, despite it being against the rules to accept gifts from men outside. She struggles to carry a pot of cold water and realizes she needs to practice her sword technique to strengthen her body. Upon seeing her reflection, Shen Jiao is startled and feels down, recalling how she broke the rules during mealtime. However, she cheers up, feeling free from the rules now that her nurse is not by her side. There is an urgent knocking at the door, and Shen Jiao sees her mother, Zhang Yu Mei, and her aunt, Shen Jia Yi, along with Shen Jia Yi's stepson, Shi Tie Jun. Shen Jiao shivers at the sight of Shi Tie Jun, who had bullied her in the past. Shen Jiao opens the door, and Shen Jia Yi tries to be gentle, while Zhang Yu Mei is unfriendly. Shen Jiao is cautious and steps aside to avoid Shi Tie Jun, who starts pulling her hair again. Shen Jia Yi asks about Shen Jiao's grandfather, and upon hearing that he will be back soon, both Zhang Yu Mei and Shen Jia Yi's expressions change. Shi Tie Jun starts stealing Shen Jiao's cookies, and she rushes to snatch the box back, regretting not putting it away earlier.
