Chapter 012: Protecting Food with One's Life [11]

Summary

Shen Jiao, the protagonist, is scared of Shi Tie Jun, her cousin, but she stands up for herself when he tries to take her cookie. Despite her fear, she bravely faces him and even attacks him with a stool when he threatens to beat her to death. Shi Tie Jun is caught off guard and falls to the ground. Shen Jiao then picks up a dagger and stabs Shi Tie Jun's palm, causing him to panic and wail in pain. Shen Jia Yi, Shen Jiao's aunt, intervenes and tries to calm Shen Jiao down, but Shen Jiao is uncooperative and continues to hold the dagger to Shi Tie Jun's neck. Shen Jia Yi tries to reason with Shen Jiao, but Shen Jiao is wary of her aunt's intentions and refuses to back down. The situation is interrupted by Shen Jia Xing, Shen Jiao's grandfather, who returns from his stroll and calls out to Shen Jiao to bring him a kettle of hot water. Shen Jiao feels a sense of relief, but still maintains her standoff with Shen Jia Yi. Shen Jia Yi calls out to Shen Jia Xing for help, and he rushes inside to find Shen Jiao holding a dagger to Shi Tie Jun's neck. Shen Jia Xing is relieved to see that Shen Jiao is unharmed and scolds Shen Jia Yi for fussing over Shi Tie Jun's injuries. Shen Jia Yi is bitter and resentful towards Shen Jiao, feeling that she has changed her brother's behavior towards her.
