Summary

In Fengyang County, a young scholar bids farewell to his wife, promising to return in six months. However, ten months pass with no word from him, leaving his wife heartbroken and longing for his return. One night, a mysterious lady appears and offers to guide her to her husband. They journey together until the wife, feeling weak, is offered the lady's shoes. Upon meeting her husband, he is confused by the lady's presence. They all go to a nearby village, where the husband becomes enamored with the lady, neglecting his wife. As the night unfolds, the wife overhears her husband's flirtations and is consumed by anger and despair. Her brother, Saburo, arrives, and after hearing her plight, he storms to confront her husband. In a fit of rage, he throws a stone through the window, causing chaos, but the wife blames him, leading to a rift between them.
