Chapter Chương 941: Mông Khởi chết, Tây Khiêu loạn [941]
Summary
The news of Ma Chao's death spread to the Qiang and Di tribes, and many commoners mourned for him. The Qiang and Di people even erected a shrine for Ma Chao in Nakahara. Yang Qian Wan, a cunning old fox, learned of this information and decided to test the Han by raiding merchant caravans on the Silk Road. He believed that if Ma Chao was truly dead, the Han would retract their influence and not dare to engage with the Western Regions. Yang Qian Wan and Mi Dang, under the jurisdiction of Zhangye County, felt at ease seeing County Guard Hao Zhao's caution. They believed Ma Chao must be dead and decided to gather 100,000 rebel troops and march towards Zhangye. Hao Zhao, however, had leveled up and was able to resist Zhuge Liang's attack. He and Zhang Ji, both former generals of the Wei Kingdom, met up and prepared to defend Zhangye against the Qiang army. Yang Qian Wan's war was the result of long-term planning, but his simple destruction of villages didn't bring him any benefits. The villages had been evacuated by Hao Zhao, and not even a grain of food was left for Yang Qian Wan. The Qiang soldiers were disheartened, but Yang Qian Wan insisted on his own views, explaining that destroying the villages would make the Han people in the city uneasy. Zhang Ji comforted the anxious citizens within the city, telling them that the Qiang rebellion had actually helped the court immensely. He claimed that Liu Mang wanted to build new villages and houses, which stabilized the people's hearts. The news of Yang Qian Wan's rebellion reached the cabinet, and Liu Mang decided to solve the problem at its root, rather than sending Ma Chao and other generals to scare the Qiang into fleeing.Full content
