Chapter 969: Battle of Taiyuan (10). [973]
Summary
The chapter depicts the chaos of battle as the Sui Jun cavalry decimates the fleeing Turkic army, leading to significant casualties and disarray among the Turkic forces. Kang Qiaoli, a Turkic general, realizes the dire situation as his troops are unable to regroup due to tribal divisions and the panic caused by the retreat of allied tribes. Meanwhile, the Sui Jun infantry, led by Wei Chi Gong, effectively intercepts and attacks the fleeing Turkic soldiers, resulting in thousands of surrenders and a near-total annihilation of the Turkic forces north of Loufan Pass. Following the battle, Ling Jing, a Sui Jun officer, arrives in Taiyuan City for negotiations with the Tang dynasty, where he learns of the Tang's strategic intentions regarding the Turkic threat. Li Jian Cheng, the Crown Prince, expresses a desire to cooperate with the Sui Jun against the Turkic forces, acknowledging the urgency of the situation as the Turkic army faces a food crisis and potential retreat. Ling Jing reveals that the Northern Sui army is already advancing towards Jiaocheng County, surprising the Tang officials with the news of their rapid movement.Full content
