Chapter 9: The Struggle for the Throne. [11]

Summary

In 2117 BC, Dayu ascended the throne, receiving the blessings of Emperor Shun and the officials. Shun required Dayu to report on state affairs quarterly, which Dayu found disrespectful and indicative of Shun's lack of trust. Despite his private grievances, Dayu maintained respect publicly. He implemented reforms, granting amnesty to flood control workers and promoting loyal supporters. However, tensions arose with Gao Tao, whose integrity challenged Dayu's authority. After an investigation into misappropriated resources led to Dayu's son, Dayu managed to placate the situation, gaining praise from Shun. Yet, Dayu's dissatisfaction with Gao Tao grew, leading to plots against him.
