Summary

Li Qian Shun learns of the fall of Xiping Prefecture to the Song army two days after it happens, prompting him to convene trusted ministers to devise a counter-strategy. They decide to send thirty thousand elite Iron Hawk cavalry, led by King Li Ren Zhong, to reclaim the lost territory. As they travel, they discover the devastation left by the Song army, including the destruction of vital supplies at White Copper Mountain and the empty, looted Lingzhou City. An old Tangut man reveals that the Song army had taken the population and wealth two days prior. Li Ren Zhong, feeling despair, splits his forces to pursue the enemy while noting the strategic importance of the White Horse River. Meanwhile, the Song army fortifies the captured Qinggang Gorge Military Post, preparing for a long-term occupation and signaling their movements to other units.
