Summary

The summer official's military commander gathered troops from 9 towns, but only Yu Zhou's forces were regular army, while the others were inexperienced tribal guards. Facing a superior enemy force of over 140,000 from the Ghost Clan, the commander decided to avoid direct confrontation and instead delay the battle, aiming to deplete the enemy's supplies. The main army was divided into three camps to block the Ghost Clan's advance. Despite fierce fighting, the Ghost Clan could not breach the camps after two days, suffering heavy losses. The Ji Zhou garrison reinforced their defenses, and the Ghost Clan attempted a flanking maneuver, which was thwarted by the Youqiong Clan's timely intervention. The Ghost Clan's leader then devised a strategy to lure the court's army out of their fortified positions for a decisive battle, planning a feigned attack to distract them while advancing towards the river crossing with a large force.
