Chapter 838: Recapturing Kuaiji. [841]
Summary
As the Sui army cavalry charged out of Kuaiji County, the defending forces quickly collapsed, with many soldiers fleeing and only a fraction surrendering to Yang Zhi Fu. Upon surrendering, Yang Zhi Fu sought forgiveness from Zhang Xuan, who accepted his plea and allowed the soldiers to join the Sui army. Zhang Xuan recognized the importance of appointing suitable governors for Kuaiji County due to cultural differences and the need for stability. He considered Xiao Jian for the position, leveraging his connections to the influential Yu family. Despite suggestions to appoint Yang Zhi Fu as vice governor, Zhang Xuan declined, prioritizing stability and loyalty. After securing supplies and wealth from Kuaiji County, Zhang Xuan tasked Li Jing with leading troops to Lingnan while planning to eliminate any threats from the former commander Feng Ang. Three days later, Meng Hai Gong was executed, drawing a large crowd, while Zhang Xuan advanced into Dongyang County towards Lin Shi Hong's territory.Full content
