Chapter 831: Abandon the City and Retreat South. [834]
Summary
Li Bai Yao presents a letter from Meng Hai Gong to Zhang Xuan, who dismisses Meng's willingness to give up his imperial title for a governorship as a sign of weakness. Zhang Xuan refuses to spare Meng Hai Gong, insisting on dealing with him after eliminating his forces. Fang Xuan Ling expresses concern for Meng's soldiers, fearing another massacre, but Zhang Xuan promises to differentiate between the guilty and the innocent. Meanwhile, Meng Hai Gong reacts furiously to Zhang's dismissive response, vowing to fight back. In his palace, he struggles with fear and anxiety, leading to a violent outburst against his consorts. His son, Meng Yi, encourages him to fight, suggesting a retreat strategy to Fuyang County. They plan to use a diversionary tactic to cover their escape while preparing a floating bridge for a quick retreat if necessary.Full content
