The Cold Door Hero
Chapter 767: Demanding Repayment. [772]
Summary
Bai Shi Zhong, the Minister of State, moved his family from a desolate outer city residence to a smaller home in the inner city after his wife passed away. His youngest son, Bai Jin, married the daughter of Cai Jing, Bai Shi Zhong’s superior. A conflict arose when Bai Jin's wife impulsively purchased cosmetics from Bao Yan Zhai but failed to pay. When A Mei, a representative from Bao Yan Zhai, came to collect the debt, she faced rudeness from the doorman, leading to a public protest outside the Bai residence. Li Yan Qing of Bao Yan Zhai aimed to use this incident to enhance his reputation after a recent protest had damaged his standing. The protest escalated as a large crowd gathered, accusing the Bai family of abuse and corruption. The situation drew the attention of the new magistrate, Xu Bing Zhe, who was concerned about the public outcry against the Bai family, which he had been recommended to by Bai Shi Zhong. As tensions rose, the magistrate was bewildered by the exaggerated claims surrounding the debt, realizing the situation had spiraled out of control.Full content
