Chapter 733: Negotiation and Surrender. [736]

Summary

On June 15th, Prince Zhang Xuan led an army of 80,000 troops to Pyongyang, forcing General Quan Wen Shou to surrender. Concurrently, a naval force annihilated Gao Hui Zhen's troops, leading her to take her own life. With 100,000 Sui troops surrounding the city, panic ensued among the remaining defenders. Quan Huan addressed a crowd demanding to see him, assuring them he would protect their lives and property. The crowd urged negotiation over resistance, prompting Quan Huan to consider their demands seriously. He received a message from his son, urging surrender, which led him to realize the necessity of negotiating with the Sui army. Wu Zhe Jun, sent by Quan Huan, sought a peaceful resolution with the Sui, but Fang Xuan Ling indicated the dire consequences of refusal. Wu Zhe Jun was given a scroll outlining the Sui's terms, which he had to respond to within three days. Fang Xuan Ling also provided a protective seal for Wu Zhe Jun's home in case of failure in negotiations. Zhang Xuan observed the situation, questioning whether the Goguryeo would have any choice left.
