Summary

In December of the 6th year of the Xuanhe era, Wan Yan Xie Ye, appointed as Supreme Commander, led a massive Jin army of 250,000 troops to attack the Song Dynasty. The army split into two routes, one led by Wan Yan Zong Bi heading south and the other by Wan Yan Zong Han towards Taiyuan. Meanwhile, a surprise force of 20,000 soldiers led by Liu Qi and Wang Gui, secretly organized by Li Yan Qing, advanced towards the capital under the guise of defense. As chaos ensued in the capital with citizens fleeing and prices skyrocketing due to panic buying, Zhao Ji, the emperor, faced the grim reality of the Jin army's advance. He contemplated abdicating to the Crown Prince, realizing the city was unprepared for defense. Urged by Cai You, Zhao Ji decided to escape the capital, as the Jin army was nearing the Yellow River. Li Yan Qing, aware of the Jin troops' movements, was measuring the city's defenses when he learned of Zhao Ji's abdication. He recognized the urgency of the situation and instructed Li Gang to gather guards and secure the Eastern Palace to prevent a power struggle. Li Yan Qing aimed to control Tong Guan, a significant military figure, to ensure the stability of the Crown Prince's ascension amid the impending chaos.
