Summary

In Chang'an, a carriage arrives at the Hongwen Pavilion, an official school for noble youths. The Crown Prince, Li Jian Cheng, has set up this pavilion as his external court while the Eastern Palace undergoes renovations. A guard initially stops the carriage but quickly recognizes the significance of a jade token held by Gao Hui, a woman of importance in the Bohai Society. She visits Li Jian Cheng to discuss military matters regarding Goguryeo, revealing that Zhang Xuan has mobilized a large army. Despite the potential for conflict, Li Jian Cheng expresses caution about breaking agreements. After her visit, he decides to inform his father, Li Yuan, about the situation. Meanwhile, Li Yuan is concerned about the unrest caused by external threats and the resettlement of refugees. He discusses military provisions with Li Jian Cheng, who assures him that supplies have been sent to his brother, Li Shi Min. The chapter ends with Li Yuan asking for a response regarding Goguryeo.
