Summary

Pei Xingyan and his generals discuss their strategy, but Song Zheng Ben's cold and arrogant attitude angers them. However, Pei Xingyan considers Song Zheng Ben's advice and decides to pursue the Goguryeo army, which has retreated eastward. The Sui cavalry catches up with the Goguryeo army, but Pei Xingyan realizes he has fallen into a trap, and the main force of the Goguryeo army has already retreated. The Sui cavalry annihilates the remaining Goguryeo soldiers, but suffers heavy casualties. Pei Xingyan apologizes to Song Zheng Ben and seeks his guidance. Song Zheng Ben advises Pei Xingyan to gather intelligence, prepare for a full interception of the Goguryeo army's retreat, and ask the Xianbei tribe to gather their forces to deter the Khitan from sending troops. Song Zheng Ben also suggests ambushing the Khitan reinforcements around Bai Lang Mountain. Pei Xingyan agrees to Song Zheng Ben's strategy and writes a letter to the commander, seeking forgiveness.
