Chapter 686: Cut Off the Water Source. [690]

Summary

At dawn, the Sui army remained at a standoff with the Goguryeo soldiers in the mountain city. Commander Lai Hu'er, after a failed assault on the central city, learned of the casualties and discussed strategies with his generals. They decided against using poison smoke again due to its ineffectiveness now that the enemy was prepared. Instead, Lai Hu'er discovered a hidden prison in a supply warehouse, rescuing two officials who had been tortured. He ordered his men to find a water source within three days, crucial for their plans to capture Baisha City. Meanwhile, Goguryeo's commander, Ning Han Yi, recovered from poisoning and realized the Sui army was trying to starve them out by sealing off their escape and diverting their water supply. As the water flow diminished, Ning Han Yi connected the Sui's actions to the dwindling spring, leading to a sense of impending doom for his forces.
