Good Landlord of the Tang Dynasty.

Chapter 630: Traveler. [630]

Summary

In the early morning of Chang'an City, the day begins with the sound of street drums and the chants of monks selling newspapers and announcing the weather. The reputation of Buddhism has declined due to reports of corrupt monks, prompting the imperial court to impose strict regulations on temples, limiting their numbers and activities. Monks must now undergo rigorous examinations and obtain permits for travel, while economic activities are prohibited. Many temples have been repurposed or dismantled, and monks are forced to engage in farming and public service to regain public favor. The remaining monks adapt by announcing the time and weather, while nuns sell embroidered goods to survive in changing times.
