Chapter 48: Inheriting the Candle (2). [47]

Summary

In the evening, a candidate secretly cheated during an exam by using a specially designed white wax candle that contained hidden answers. After signaling for six pieces of wax, he lit them one by one, carefully copying the answers from a concealed paper within the last candle. Once done, he burned the evidence, leaving no trace. Meanwhile, Zhao Hong Run, observing from above, learned of this meticulous cheating method and speculated that it involved a larger network, possibly including examiners. Despite realizing the extent of the cheating, he decided to devise a bigger plan rather than report the small officials involved, hinting at a more significant strategy to address the corruption.
