The Great Idle Person of the Zhenguan Era.
Chapter 43: Li Father Submits His Scroll. [44]
Summary
Li Dao Zheng, a simple farmer, visited Guo Zhu to show him a poem written by his son Li Su. Guo Zhu explained that the poem could be used to become an official, and Li Dao Zheng's thoughts were triggered. He took the poem and decided to submit it to the nobles in Chang'an City. Li Dao Zheng had never seen the world and had never submitted a paper before. He was confused and didn't understand the significance of submitting a paper. After arriving in Chang'an City, Li Dao Zheng went to the Government Office of the Ministry of Official Appointments. He met a staff member wearing a deep green official uniform and fell to his knees, holding up the poem. He asked the staff member to look at the poem and give his son a chance to present it to the emperor. However, the staff member explained that Li Su had not participated in the imperial examination, so submitting the paper was pointless. Li Dao Zheng became frantic and insisted that the staff member take a look at the poem. He was eventually pushed out by the soldiers and fell to the ground, still holding the poem. Li Dao Zheng wept openly and begged the people passing by to take a look at the poem, but no one stopped to care.Full content
