Chapter 40: Drawing Lots (2). [39]

Summary

In a tense drawing of lots, Zhao Hong Run cleverly attempts to outsmart the Da Wei Tian Zi by switching a paper with his name hidden in his sleeve. Despite his efforts, the Da Wei Tian Zi sees through his trickery but ultimately names Zhao Hong Run as the supervisor for the examination, despite the paper he drew actually indicating the Sixth Prince. The Da Wei Tian Zi's decision seems to favor Zhao Hong Run, possibly to teach him a lesson about his deceitful tactics. The other princes, while disappointed, accept the outcome as long as the Eastern Palace Crown Prince doesn't gain the position. Zhao Hong Run leaves feeling triumphant, unaware that his father has manipulated the situation to his advantage.
