Chapter 39: The Practice of Cats and Responsibilities. [38]

Summary

In this chapter, Maki Miyazawa discovers a fluffy white kitten, affectionately named Salmon Ball, at her house, which is being held by Sawayama Haruno. Maki is frustrated that the kitten, which she struggled to coax out earlier, now seems perfectly content with Haruno. As they discuss the kitten, Haruno emphasizes that if Maki wants to keep the cat, she must take full responsibility for its care, including vaccinations and financial obligations, to encourage her independence. Despite initial reluctance, Maki agrees to take care of Salmon Ball, driven by her pride and determination to manage on her own. Haruno, wanting to guide Maki towards independence, considers using his previous work connections to help her find a job. He reaches out to a former employer, discovering they are currently short-staffed. After getting their support for Maki’s potential employment, he encourages her to report for work, prompting some reluctance from her since she wishes to prove her ability without relying on his connections. However, she understands she must follow through on her promise to take care of the kitten, setting the stage for her personal growth journey.
