Chapter 39: Royal Court Night Banquet. [40]

Summary

Li Shi Min, the emperor, gathered his children for a family dinner, trying to strengthen their bond and redeem his past mistakes. He asked Prince of Wei Li Tai about his studies, and Li Tai gave a flattering speech, quoting Mengzi and comparing Li Shi Min to a wise ruler. The princes and princesses followed Li Tai's lead, kneeling and shouting "Long live the Emperor!" Li Shi Min was pleased and ordered them to write a poem or prose on a topic he gave. The princes and princesses started thinking deeply, except for Dong Yang, who looked bored and cold, thinking about a plan to buy poems from a talented but petty poet. Dong Yang's thoughts were full of excitement and anticipation, and she eventually burst out laughing, ruining the atmosphere and drawing everyone's attention.
