Summary

Lu Chen reflects on his ten years in Shimizu Pond Village, feeling both connected to and detached from the villagers. As he approaches the village, he recalls the vibrant memories of Ding Dang, a woman who stood out amidst the dullness of the villagers' lives. Despite recognizing familiar faces, the villagers do not recognize him, leading him to feel erased from their memories. As he walks through the village, he admires the beauty of spring and reminisces about his past, particularly a moment under a peach tree with Ding Dang. Arriving at a familiar inn, he is surprised to find it unchanged, but is astonished when he sees Old Ma behind the counter, who recognizes him.
