Summary

Li Yan Qing, leading his first battle, remains alert as dawn approaches and the Western Xia army is suspected of a feigned retreat. Wang Gui brings him over 100 throwing daggers, which Li Yan Qing finds useful for close combat. As they prepare, a warning from scouts signals the approach of enemy troops. The Song army, armed with bows and long spears, engages in battle, initially gaining the upper hand with their arrows. However, the Western Xia soldiers press on despite heavy casualties. Li Yan Qing rejects a request for reinforcements, understanding the importance of holding the dam. As fighting intensifies, Wang Gui finds himself surrounded but is saved by Li Yan Qing's timely intervention. The battle escalates, and Li Yan Qing orders his archers to prepare for melee combat. Meanwhile, on the east bank, Liu Qi's forces also engage the Western Xia army. The situation worsens as Western Xia boats are spotted approaching the dam, signaling a direct assault.
