Chapter 314: The First Battle of Wei Chi. [317]
Summary
Wei Chi Gong led two thousand Sui troops to ambush Dong'an County as part of a mission to capture it for supplies. Nervous yet eager, he used a merchant convoy as a distraction. After gathering intelligence, he discovered the defenders were weak on the southern wall, prompting him to attack at night. As his troops climbed the wall, Wei Chi Gong engaged in fierce combat, quickly overwhelming the defenders. The bandit leader, Hu San Lang, was killed, leading to the surrender of the remaining soldiers. Despite capturing the city, Wei Chi Gong was disheartened by the casualties and the escape of some bandits. When Zhang Xuan arrived, he reassured Wei Chi Gong, emphasizing that casualties are inevitable in battle. They inspected the granary, finding ample supplies, and Zhang Xuan decided to reward the troops. Wei Chi Gong realized that the escape of some bandits might not be a total loss.Full content
