Chapter 30: Celebration Banquet. [33]

Summary

Yang Tan learns that Zhang Xuan has been rewarded by Huang Zu Mu, which eases his concerns. He inquires about his grandparents and is pleased to hear they are well. Yang Tan becomes curious about a zitan wood box containing a jade hairpin, a precious gift from the little princess to Zhang Xuan, who insists on returning it to her, recognizing its significance. Yang Tan and Chen Zhi Yong agree to inform the Empress about the situation. Later, Zhang Xuan discovers a note from the little princess proposing him as her future husband, which amuses him. As he prepares to celebrate his promotion with his fellow Shi Wei, they head to Tian Si Ge restaurant, where they encounter some initial difficulties due to a lack of reservation. However, they are eventually accommodated. Zhang Xuan is generous with his spending, ordering lavishly for his companions. The atmosphere is lively, and as they enjoy their meal, an old man and a girl offer to play music, but the group declines. Zhang Xuan shows kindness by giving money to the girl, which prompts a young voice from behind a screen to advocate for helping the needy, causing some tension among the group.
