Chapter 299: "The Lone Wolf and the Bronze Axe: The Mystery of Emperor Yu". [301]

Summary

The lone wolf reported to the Clan Chief about a plan to bribe Dayu's supply officer, Che Sheng, with a jade pendant and a bronze axe. The Clan Chief believed these gifts would impress Che Sheng, who was known for his modesty but recognized the value of such items. During a drinking session, the lone wolf presented the gifts to Che Sheng, who accepted them while feigning humility. Che Sheng then promised to help the lone wolf visit Dayu's residence, but only if the lone wolf assisted with delivering lamp oil and charcoal. After completing the delivery, Che Sheng explained that visiting Yi Di's small yard required special permission and was strictly forbidden. Despite the lone wolf's desire to accompany him, Che Sheng refused. Later, the supply officer warned Che Sheng that the labor chief was unhappy about not being allowed to visit Yi Di and threatened to report Che Sheng for accepting the gifts. To avoid repercussions, Che Sheng agreed to find a way to fulfill the labor chief's request.
