Chapter 29: Two Mouths for the Word "Official". [28]

Summary

Shen Xi received permission from his grandmother Li Shi to continue his studies, making Zhou Shi, his mother, very pleased. However, their family faced challenges as they were told to vacate the courtyard they were living in, and Shen Ming Jun, Shen Xi's father, had to find a new place for them to stay. Additionally, Shen Xi was summoned to the county office because the officials could not find the old Daoist who wrote the scripts he had submitted. The summer clerk warned that if the old Daoist was not found, Shen Xi and his father would be held responsible. With the queen's birthday and the crown prince's first birthday approaching, the officials wanted to present the southern opera scripts to the palace to gain favor. Shen Xi felt indignant about the power dynamics at play and decided to write the play script himself to protect his father from legal troubles, while also checking on the counterfeit paintings he had sold at an art shop.
