The Great Idle Person of the Zhenguan Era.
Chapter 24: Wealth and Poetry. [25]
Summary
Li Su, a young boy, is given paper and ink by his father, Li Dao Zheng, who wants him to become a good official. However, Li Su's mind is elsewhere, thinking about the poor quality of the paper and how people in later generations made better paper. He also thinks about the primitive printing technique in this era and how he can use this knowledge to accumulate wealth in the future. Meanwhile, Guo Ju, a scholar, is invited to teach at a village school after submitting his writings to the Princess of Dongyang. He is grateful for the opportunity and feels poetic inspiration, but struggles to come up with words. Elsewhere, Wang Zhuang, a student, is teased by his brother for not being able to recite what he learned in school, but surprises everyone by reciting a poem that Li Su had recited earlier.Full content
