Summary

Wei Yun Qi, the commander of the Sui army, received news that the bandit troops had halted their advance, which was his desired outcome. He planned to delay the enemy forces and prevent them from launching a siege before reinforcements arrived. Wei Yun Qi used a captured bandit, Yang San Pin, to deceive the bandit scouts, making them believe that the Sui army had 2,000-3,000 troops stationed on an earth mound. The bandit commander, An Shou Xi, was misled and decided to change course towards Linzi County to grab supplies. Wei Yun Qi received news of the bandits' change in course and was both joyful and concerned. He was worried that the bandits would reach Linzi County, where there were no soldiers, but he was confident that his reinforcements would arrive soon. Wei Yun Qi sent scouts to rendezvous with the reinforcements and instructed them to change course to Linzi County. He also sent a note to the Linzi County magistrate to evacuate civilians and close the city gates. Wei Yun Qi and Captain Du Yun Si led several hundred men towards Linzi County, determined to arrive before the bandits.
