Summary

Li Yan Qing travels north from Zhongdu County through hilly terrain known for bandit activity. While riding, he remains vigilant, anticipating danger. Suddenly, he is surrounded by a group of armed bandits led by Yang Hu and Liu Gao, a commander from Liangshan. Liu Gao, eager to capture Li Yan Qing's prized horse, tries to negotiate, but Li Yan Qing refuses and threatens to retaliate against Liangshan. As Liu Gao approaches, Li Yan Qing shoots arrows with deadly accuracy, killing Liu Gao and creating chaos among the bandits. He escapes, using Liu Gao's horse as a shield while fending off crossbowmen. The chapter also provides background on Liangshan Lake, its history of banditry, and the rise of the Liangshan Rebels under Song Jiang, who now commands a significant force.
