Chapter 192: Two Thousand Elites. [195]

Summary

Liang Zhi welcomes Teng Xuan and Cui Yuan Han, the latter whom he recognizes as the second son of Cui Huan, the head of the Qinghe Cui family. Cui Yuan Han has come to Beihai County at the behest of his father due to his concern about Zhang Xuan's situation. Liang Zhi learns that Zhang Xuan is a subordinate of Yan Wang, operating independently in Qingzhou, and a well-known figure in the court. Previously appointed as a Wu Yong General in Zhuo County, he achieved merit in the war against Goguryeo and was promoted to Xiong Wu General. Cui Yuan Han conveys that his father hopes Liang Zhi will not oppose Zhang Xuan and will try to cooperate. Liang Zhi, understanding the Cui family's stance, agrees to Zhang Xuan's terms, conceding the two thousand soldiers and the security authority of Beihai County. Teng Xuan is tasked with handing over the soldiers to Zhang Xuan. Zhang Xuan, pleased with Liang Zhi's quick concession, addresses the two thousand soldiers, welcoming them to the military camp and establishing his strict military discipline and fair rewards and punishments rules. Only thirty soldiers choose to leave, and the rest enter the camp to begin training under Wei Chi Gong. Liu Ling is tasked with handling the transfer of security authority with Liang Zhi, and Zhang Xuan suggests that Liang Zhi follow the model of Qi County, building towns around Yidu County for easier army protection. A messenger arrives with a letter from the commander, asking Zhang Xuan to visit Qi County.
