Summary

Lu Zhong Gen, a successful businessman from Ninghai Town, welcomes his cousin Li Yan Qing, who is on a mission to gather resources from the sea. Li Yan Qing is particularly interested in the fat from river pigs (Yangtze River dolphins) for making soap and cosmetics. They strike a deal for the fat at ten wen per pound, with an agreement for transportation to Bianjing. Li Yan Qing also requests seaweed ash for making baking soda, which Lu Zhong Gen agrees to provide. After three days of collecting fish oil and seaweed, Li Yan Qing returns to Jiaxing, where he learns that Prince Zhao Kai has been ordered to escort Zhu Mian and his father to the capital, with their wealth also being transported. Tensions rise as Zhu Chong questions the motives behind the escort, and Zhao Kai reveals that Tang Qian Zhi has returned to the capital, leaving Li Yan Qing intrigued about his significance.
