Chapter 18: Undercurrents in Peace. [106]
Summary
Hao Qi steps out of a bar in Mobimo, reflecting on the apparent happiness and prosperity of the society around him, which he recognizes as an illusion. He contemplates the extraordinary powers present in this world, including the inner strength, inner energy, and true energy realms, each representing a significant elevation above ordinary existence. Despite the seeming stability and happiness of Mobimo, he understands that this façade may crumble, especially after the recent death of the previous emperor, Lan Jing Ling. Hao Qi believes that unless Mobimo has inherited ancient technological advancements, the peace is precarious. After ten days in Mobimo, he seeks out the Defense Army, encountering protests against the government led by the new emperor, Lan Xingchen, who proposes to increase imperial power and establish an external military. Hao Qi realizes that the social order is maintained by the disparity of power, and the aristocratic families' influence remains strong. He quickly gains a position in the Defense Army as deputy captain, tasked with guarding the royal palace amidst rumors of an impending revolutionary attack aimed at kidnapping Princess Lan Ling Er, the favored daughter of the emperors.Full content
