Chapter 163: Turn the Tables. [166]

Summary

Feicheng County, located 200 miles from Qijun and Licheng, faced significant bandit threats, with Zhang Xutuo recently appointed to quell them. His Flying Eagle Army of 20,000 was vastly outnumbered by over a hundred bandit groups. Local officials were uncooperative, many siding with the bandits for self-preservation. After a defeat in spring, support for Zhang dwindled, forcing him to abandon his offensive plans. He set out with 5,000 soldiers to rescue Luo Shi Xin, who was trapped by Xu Yuanlang's forces. A cavalryman informed Zhang of reinforcements led by Wei Yun Qi, who warned him that Luo's situation was a trap. Zhang decided to halt his advance and strategized with Wei, planning to attack Xu Yuanlang's stronghold instead. Meanwhile, Xu Yuanlang, anxious about the lack of reinforcements, learned of Zhang's approach to his lair and ordered a retreat to protect his home. As Zhang's troops ambushed Xu's fleeing forces, chaos ensued, leading to heavy casualties among the bandits. Xu Yuanlang's plans unraveled, forcing him to abandon his army and seek refuge elsewhere.
