Chapter 162: Encountering the Police on the Way. [165]

Summary

A Sui Dynasty army of nearly 2,000, led by Zhang Xuan, marches through desolate autumn landscapes towards Qijun. Wei Yun Qi, the chief military advisor, shares knowledge about local bandits, particularly Xu Yuanlang, who has taken advantage of the region's instability. As they approach Feicheng, scouts report that a Sui army is surrounded by bandits on a nearby hill. Zhang Xuan, now a seasoned commander, decides to send Captain Shen Guang to make contact with the trapped Sui soldiers. Shen Guang successfully climbs the cliff to reach the hilltop, where he discovers that the besieged troops are led by Luo Shi Xin, who has suffered injuries and dwindling numbers. Wei Yun Qi suspects that the bandits are attempting to cut off reinforcements rather than directly assault the hill. Zhang Xuan devises a plan to inform General Zhang of the situation, hoping to turn the bandits' strategy against them. Wei Yun Qi is tasked with delivering the message, while Zhang Xuan prepares his army for a potential attack.
