Chapter 16: Painful Copying of Books. [15]
Summary
As dusk fell, Jia Huan returned home with Aunt Zhao and the maid Ji Xiang. They discussed family matters, including a gift for the Third Miss, which Jia Huan dismissed as a mere gesture. Aunt Zhao praised him, but he felt misunderstood. He was tasked by Wang Fu Ren to copy significant texts, including the "Dao De Jing" and "Zhuangzi," which he found daunting. As he worked, he was joined by Cai Xia, who admired his calligraphy. Jia Baoyu's arrival brought laughter, but Jia Huan felt indifferent towards him. Despite the challenges of copying the texts, Jia Huan remained focused, contemplating his family's dynamics and his own aspirations.Full content
