Chapter 158: Sacrificing One's Life and Forgetting Death. [165]
Summary
The Firearm Bureau, established by Li Shi Min's decree, was on fire, engulfing the four workshops and spreading to the main house. Li Su, the supervisor, watched the flames consume everything, his heart heavy with the loss of nearly twenty innocent lives. Xu Jingzong, a key official, was furious, slapping artisans and trying to find out who was responsible. A gust of wind spread the fire, threatening the warehouse storing five large barrels of firepowder, which could level the entire Fire Bureau. Li Su ordered the creation of a firebreak and the evacuation of the workshops, while Yang Yan, the Monitoring Official, charged into the main mansion to rescue the barrels. Li Su offered a generous reward to the Jinwuwei soldiers who helped put out the fire. Yang Yan and the soldiers successfully removed the five barrels of gunpowder, saving the Fire Bureau from destruction. The great fire was finally extinguished, but the loss was considerable, with four workshops and the northern courtyard of the main house reduced to ashes.Full content
