Chapter 155: "Winds and Clouds in the Palace: Emperor Yi's Retirement and Dayu's Fury". [157]

Summary

The Chief of the Court reports to Yi Di about Dayu's reaction, revealing Dayu's lack of hatred towards Yi Di and his poor health. As ministers demand accountability for Yi Di's negligence, Dayu decides to summon him to announce his retirement and accept punishment. During the meeting, Yi Di expresses remorse for the treasonous act against Dayu, which he failed to detect. Dayu emphasizes the need for severe punishment for the conspirators to maintain order and warns Yi Di about the consequences of poor governance. Despite the elders' agreement that Yi Di must bear responsibility, the Grand Tutor acknowledges his pure intentions. Ultimately, Dayu instructs Yi Di to oversee the execution of the traitors, causing Yi Di great anguish as they were once his trusted guards. However, for his own future and family, Yi Di reluctantly accepts Dayu's demands, knowing it is necessary to restore order in the court. Dayu concludes by stating that the inner court will be purged of any remaining accomplices to ensure safety and prevent chaos.
